Our Kia PV5 camper with its pop-top roof at the Elektro Sraz EV meet-up

Our Kia PV5 camper

Kia PV5 Passenger Elite · Skyline pop-top · Campal Camp Box

Our new family car, which we are turning into a fully capable family camper van. Here is the build step by step, the gear we use and answers to common questions.

In the Skyline Roofs workshop in Bristol: a large hole cut in the roof of our van, ready for the pop-top

The build

From a stock van to a family camper, in the order it happened. Every step has its episode: press the button to watch it here.

  1. 1Day one

    Straight to the workshop

After weeks of waiting for the delivery day, our brand-new Kia PV5 Passenger Elite came home, and it did not stay stock for long. In late June 2026, straight after we picked it up, it went to a workshop: paint protection film (PPF), window tint, interior protection film, and goodbye Kia badges. Huge thanks to @kasparfolie.

  2. 2Gear

    A fridge, and a scratch

Our fridge is the Outwell Arctic Chill 41 Dual Zone. We found it the hard way: we scratched our brand-new van while trying another one.

  3. 3Roof

The Skyline pop-top roof, fitted in England

In July 2026 we drove over 1 000 miles from the Czech Republic to England, through the Channel Tunnel, to Skyline Roofs in Bristol. There they cut a huge hole in the roof of our brand-new van and fitted a Skyline pop-top roof. It made ours the first Kia PV5 in continental Europe with a Skyline pop-top.

  4. 4Interior

    The Campal Camp Box

After Skyline, our next stop was Campal, where the camper interior conversion began. We install the Campal Camp Box together with window curtains and privacy blinds, and the Camp Box transforms into a bed.

    The van tour

The finished camper from every side: how the pop-top roof opens and closes, how the Camp Box turns into a bed, the sleeping space upstairs and downstairs, the storage, and whether it is practical for a family of four.

  6. 6Storage

    A place for everything

From All In Van we have rear window organizers that fit perfectly, are easy to install and don't cost a fortune, seat-back organizers and storage bags. The storage episode also shows the van's new look with our brand-new Electric Van Fam stickers.

  7. 7Costs

    What it cost

We went through every major expense, from the Kia PV5 itself to the pop-top roof, the Campal Camp Box, the fridge, PPF, the journey to England and all the smaller upgrades. No guesses, just the real numbers: the final total is revealed at the end of the video.

Questions

Which van do you drive?

A new Kia PV5 Passenger Elite – our family car, and our small camper too. Step by step we adapt it to exactly what we need for travelling and for our comfort. And everything we change and try on it, we show on our YouTube channel.

How many people travel in it?

There are four of us – the two of us and our two children. Sometimes our four-legged darling Elvis comes along too. Because we are a big family, we wanted a van that is not only a camper but one we can also use in everyday life. And so far we enjoy finding out how much we can fit into it.

What is the sleeping and storage setup?

We have a Skyline pop-top roof, where two of us sleep comfortably. The Campal Camp Box turns into a bed for two more people in a moment, and it also folds out to serve as a dining area and a small kitchen. All our things are packed in bags and other gear from All In Van. We show the complete setup in our van tour (EVF #11).

When do videos come out on YouTube?

A new Electric Van Fam video comes out every Thursday at 8 pm Czech time, which is 7 pm in the UK. We mostly film our real experiences, family road trips, camping and the upgrades of our PV5 – no gloss and no marketing talk. The Electric Van Lab and Electric Van News formats come out now and then too – so follow us and don't miss a thing.

Where else can I follow you?

On Instagram we are @electric.van.fam, where we share behind-the-scenes moments, short videos and everyday news from our life with the PV5. On YouTube you find the full videos, tests, upgrades and our road trips. So if you enjoy electric vans and travelling as a family, you are in the right place.

Do you plan a PV5 meet-up?
